About this location

HON CHEN TEMPLE - A LANDMARK OF MOTHER GODDESS WORSHIP ALONG THE PERFUME RIVER Hon Chen Temple, also known as Hue Nam Temple, is located in Hai Cat village, Kim Long ward, Hue city. This heritage site is associated with the worship of Holy Mother Thien Y A Na, holding an important role in the spiritual and cultural life of the people of Hue. The temple bears distinct historical and cultural imprints, having been restored and expanded by Emperor Minh Mang in 1832 and renamed Hue Nam Temple by Emperor Dong Khanh in 1886. The Hue Nam Temple Festival, featuring rituals such as the Mother Goddess procession, spirit possession (hau dong), and sacrificial ceremonies, was recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2024. The architectural space and religious practices provide rich visual material deeply imbued with Hue's cultural identity. With its historical, religious, and scenic values, Hon Chen Temple is well-suited for cultural documentaries, films about Mother Goddess worship, historical documentaries, and productions exploring traditional spiritual life. Filming activities require approval from the management unit and must not disrupt the rituals at the heritage site. Source compilation by: PTIT Photo source: PTIT
