About this location
Tu Hieu Pagoda - A Buddhist cultural space amidst the pine hills of Hue Located in Thuy Xuan ward, Hue city, Tu Hieu Pagoda is one of the ancient temples holding significant historical and cultural value in the former capital. Originally established in 1843 as An Duong Hermitage by Most Venerable Nhat Dinh for spiritual practice and caring for his aging mother. In 1848, the temple was expanded and renamed Tu Hieu, reflecting the founder's profound filial piety. The architectural complex stands out with its traditional layout in the shape of the Chinese character 'Khẩu' (mouth), featuring a three-bay main hall with two lean-tos, a two-tiered triple-gate (tam quan), and a semi-circular pond. The surrounding pine hills, temple courtyard, stele house, and shrines blend harmoniously with the natural landscape, exuding a solemn and ancient ambiance. With its distinctive architecture and culturally rich atmosphere, Tu Hieu Pagoda is well-suited as a filming location for historical dramas, cultural and spiritual films, documentaries, and projects exploring Vietnamese Buddhist life.
