Chantarangsay Pagoda – A Khmer Theravada Buddhist space in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City. Chantarangsay Pagoda, also known as Candaransi Pagoda or the Khmer Pagoda, is a Khmer Theravada Buddhist facility located in Xuan Hoa Ward, Ho Chi Minh City. The pagoda was built by Venerable Lam Em in 1946 to provide a place for Khmer Theravada monks to study and for the Khmer community in Saigon to engage in cultural activities. According to documents from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports, the name 'Chantarangsay' means 'Moonlight'. The setting features prominent Khmer architecture, characterized by its signature yellow color, intricate decorative details, and bas-reliefs influenced by Cambodian art. The complex includes the main hall, stupas, monks' quarters, a Sala, a Pali school, a pond, and gardens. Situated along the Nhieu Loc – Thi Nghe canal, the pagoda offers a unique blend of traditional Khmer architecture and modern urban landscape. With its distinct Khmer architectural and cultural value, this location is suitable for cultural-historical films, religious films, documentaries, films about the Khmer community in Southern Vietnam, and scenes requiring Khmer architectural spaces, rituals, or monastic life.
