This information was provided by a representative of GLOEX Global Exhibition and Conference JSC at the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Cinema Department (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) and GLOEX regarding the organization and coordination of the Vietnam Film & Television Market (VFM) for the 8th Hanoi International Film Festival (HANIFF 8) on the morning of August 20 in Hanoi.
Both parties have agreed to coordinate the organization of the VFM/TELEFILM Market in conjunction with HANIFF. This contributes to building HANIFF into an international film festival with a professional film market in line with international practices; promoting investment connections, co-production, distribution, promotion, and film copyright trading.
Within the framework of HANIFF at the end of this November, VFM will be held from November 28 to 30 in Hanoi.
This is a trading and networking space for enterprises, producers, distributors, television stations, OTT/Streaming platforms, content owners, investors, and organizations operating in the field of film, television, and digital content both domestically and internationally.
VFM aims to promote the trading of copyrights, distribution, co-production, investment, and content development, while creating opportunities for Vietnamese enterprises to connect with international partners and markets.
On the sidelines of the event, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong stated that instead of focusing solely on specialized activities for artists and filmmakers, this partnership is more "open".
According to him, film festivals in particular, or other major film activities in general, "must both ensure the role of a specialized event, aim to create and promote the film market, and also become a major festival for the public to participate in and enjoy". This is the goal for sustainable film development.

Director of the Cinema Department Dang Tran Cuong shared that previously, Vietnam faced many difficulties in bringing domestic film content to the international market. Although the quality of Vietnamese films is developing strongly, there is still much work to be done to be widely accepted by international audiences; and one of the first things that can be done is to build a reputable film market.
"We wish to create an effective content trading market to bring Vietnamese films to the global market, while helping the world better understand the Vietnamese film industry as well as film commercial activities in Vietnam," he expressed.

Typically, an international film festival (such as HANIFF) consists of two components: an art honoring festival and side commercial activities. This film market will be an essential commercial activity to optimize the value of the film festival.
However, according to the department representative, the film market model being discussed is not merely a place to call for project investment (like the previous project market model of HANIFF) but a place to exhibit modern production technologies and equipment and establish booths for exchanging and trading content copyrights directly.
