Nui Coc Lake - The Green Gem of Viet Bac, A Prime Filming Location Nui Coc Lake is the largest artificial lake in Thai Nguyen province. Created by damming the Cong River, construction began in 1972 and it became operational in 1978 for irrigation purposes. The lake covers a water surface area of approximately 2,500 hectares, featuring a 480m main dam, six auxiliary dams, and a water capacity of nearly 175.5 million cubic meters. The site is famously associated with the legend of "Nang Cong and Chang Coc"—a tragic love story between a poor flute-playing man and a nobleman's daughter, which ends with the man turning into a mountain and the woman becoming the Cong River flowing around its base. The lake's landscape is highlighted by 89 islands of various sizes scattered across the water, creating a picturesque scenery amidst the vast tea hills of the "premier tea region." The area is designated as a National Tourist Area, featuring attractions such as the Legend Palace Cave, a 45m-tall Shakyamuni Buddha statue, and nightly light and water music shows, blending natural landscapes with modern tourism infrastructure. With its diverse terrain of lakes, islands, and mountains, combined with its rich legendary narrative, this location is ideal for romantic films inspired by folklore, mythological or fairy-tale productions, and tourism promotional videos showcasing the scenic beauty of the Viet Bac region.
