Phuong Hoang Cave

Phuong Hoang Cave - An Ancient Stone Fortress in Thai Nguyen Phuong Hoang Cave is located on Phuong Hoang Mountain in Vo Nhai Commune, Thai Nguyen Province, approximately 45km from Thai Nguyen city center via National Highway 1B. Viewed from below, the mountain resembles a pair of phoenixes nesting together, a shape tied to local folklore. This monument complex is classified as a National Historical, Cultural, and Scenic Site and serves as a revolutionary landmark: on November 27, 1944, 75 soldiers of the 2nd National Salvation Army and 373 households from Vo Nhai established a resistance base here, successfully repelling a battalion of French soldiers using only stone traps, crossbows, and guerrilla tactics. Situated halfway up the mountain, the cave has a circumference of about 380m and a depth of over 70m from ceiling to floor. It is divided into three levels: the upper level (Bat Cave), the middle level (Light Cave), and the lower level (Dark Cave), with the interior featuring numerous uniquely shaped stalactites. Accessing the cave entrance requires climbing approximately 700 - 800m of stone paths through dense primary forest, providing a naturally cinematic approach. With its unique three-level cave structure and verified historical significance, this location is ideal for resistance-themed and revolutionary films, cave-based adventure/survival films, and historical documentaries about the Viet Bac region.
