Sam Mountain Fortress (Sam Mountain Bunker)

Sam Mountain Fortress – A military relic amidst the border landscape. Perched precariously on the summit of Sam Mountain in Vinh Te Ward, An Giang Province, the Sam Mountain Fortress is a site deeply marked by the military and historical significance of the Southern border region. Around 1896, a French administrator built a fortified villa with a spiral tower on the mountain peak to enjoy the breeze, which led to the peak being named 'The Fortress'. Later, this structure became a vital military base associated with strategic defense operations throughout various wartime periods. Although the original French villa no longer exists, the location still retains the 'cool house' (nha mat) perched on the mountainside, large desolate rock formations, and an ancient stone pedestal (traditionally believed to be the original site where the statue of Ba Chua Xu of Sam Mountain was placed). The extremely wide-angle shots from the summit allow for a panoramic view of the entire border region adjacent to Cambodia under mystical clouds.
