Nghe Temple

Nghe Temple, Hai Phong – A historical site dedicated to Female General Le Chan. Nghe Temple is a nationally recognized historical and cultural site in Hai Phong city, dedicated to Female General Le Chan, who is associated with the founding of An Bien village and the Trung Sisters' uprising. According to historical records, the original shrine was a small thatched-roof structure; it was rebuilt into a more substantial edifice in 1919. Nghe Temple currently features architectural styles from the Nguyen Dynasty (early 20th century), including a triple gate (tam quan), ceremonial hall (bai duong), incense burner hall (thieu huong), inner sanctum (hau cung), side wings (giai vu), a stele house, as well as stone elephant and horse statues. The ceremonial hall consists of five bays with 16 ironwood columns, while the inner sanctum features three bays with a two-tiered roof system. The site is distinguished by its intricate wood and stone carvings depicting the four sacred animals (dragon, unicorn, turtle, phoenix) and the four noble plants (pine, chrysanthemum, bamboo, apricot). The site also preserves Nguyen Dynasty stone steles documenting the biography of Female General Le Chan, along with many other valuable sculptures. With its traditional architectural structure, sacred atmosphere, and detailed carvings, Nghe Temple is an ideal location for historical dramas, cultural films, and heritage documentaries.
