About this location

Ngang Pass - Hoành Sơn Quan, Hà Tĩnh Ngang Pass is located in Hoành Sơn Ward, Hà Tĩnh. It is 6km long, 250m high, featuring Hoành Sơn Quan (built in 1833), marking the border between Hà Tĩnh and Quảng Bình provinces, with views of the Hoành Sơn mountain range and the East Sea. NGANG PASS – HOÀNH SƠN QUAN ON THE HOÀNH SƠN MOUNTAIN RANGE Ngang Pass, also known as Hoành Sơn Quan, is located in Hoành Sơn Ward, Hà Tĩnh Province. Hoành Sơn Ward was newly established under Resolution 1665/NQ-UBTVQH15 in 2025 from Kỳ Nam, Kỳ Phương, Kỳ Liên wards and the remaining population of Kỳ Lợi commune. The pass is situated on National Highway 1A, approximately 6km long and 250m high, traversing the Hoành Sơn mountain range as the natural border between Hà Tĩnh and Quảng Bình. The location features winding mountain roads amid green forests, flanked by the Hoành Sơn mountains on one side and fields, rivers, and the East Sea on the other. At the summit stands Hoành Sơn Quan, also known as the Heaven Gate (Cổng Trời), built in 1833 under King Minh Mạng to monitor travelers crossing the pass toward the imperial capital of Huế. Constructed of stone bricks with curved roofs and moss-covered stone walls, it creates a striking visual axis. It is suitable for panoramic drone shots of the mountain pass, medium shots of the Hoành Sơn Quan gate, and close-ups of the mossy stone bricks, best captured in the early morning and late afternoon. This landscape is suitable for historical films, family dramas, road movies, heritage documentaries, tourism promotional videos, and lyrical, folk music videos.
