About this location

Nhat Tru Pagoda - A thousand-year-old Buddhist heritage in the ancient capital of Hoa Lu Nhat Tru Pagoda is located in Tay Hoa Lu ward, Ninh Binh province, within the outer ramparts of the ancient Hoa Lu citadel. Dating back to the Dinh - Early Le dynasties, the pagoda lies about 150 meters north of the temples dedicated to King Dinh and King Le. Spanning an area of over 3,000 m², the campus includes the main sanctuary, the ancestral hall, and various shrines. The highlight of this location is the Buddhist sutra pillar erected by King Le Dai Hanh in 995, recognized as a National Treasure. The 4.16-meter-tall octagonal stone pillar is engraved with Buddhist sutras in Chinese characters and housed within a two-tiered, eight-roofed pavilion. The curved tile roofs, wooden structures, and intricate carvings create a visual composition imbued with traditional architectural charm. With its rich historical value and unique artifacts, the pagoda is ideal for documentaries, heritage research films, and productions exploring Buddhist spiritual life. Wide shots of the pagoda courtyard combined with close-ups of the sutra pillar effectively connect the existing space with the history of the ancient capital of Hoa Lu.
