Thien Hau Temple – A cultural landmark of the Chinese community in the heart of Bac Lieu. Located in Bac Lieu Ward, Thien Hau Temple, also known as Ba Thien Hau Pagoda, is a nationally recognized architectural landmark that deeply reflects the spiritual heritage of the Cantonese Chinese community during their settlement in the Southern region. Built in 1901, the temple features a sturdy, traditional Chinese palace-style architecture in the shape of the character 'Dien' (田). All stone columns, pedestals, statues of the Goddess, and other deities were intricately carved in China before being transported by sea to Vietnam. The sacred main hall is filled with incense smoke, highlighted by magnificent royal red and gold colors and a unique set of 'ngu su' (five ritual bronze items). The backyard offers a valuable natural backdrop with ancient banyan trees, whose long, intertwined roots create mysterious, primitive shapes weathered by time. Perfect for historical spiritual films, indigenous cultural films, and art films exploring the spiritual life of the Southern Chinese community, both past and present. Information compiled by: PTIT.
