According to Variety, HBO's Harry Potter series has released a new trailer, offering audiences a glimpse into a fresh take on the Wizarding World as this classic story is adapted for television.
Newcomer Dominic McLaughlin takes on the role of Harry Potter, the 11-year-old wizard previously portrayed by Daniel Radcliffe. Alastair Stout and Arabella Stanton play Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, respectively. The trio enrolls at Hogwarts, the school for witchcraft and wizardry.
The trailer shows Harry, Ron, and Hermione arriving at Hogwarts. All three are sorted into Gryffindor house. Harry gets acquainted with key teachers and figures at Hogwarts, including Dumbledore, Snape, McGonagall, and Hagrid, while attending magic classes such as Herbology and Potions, and trying his hand at the aerial sport of Quidditch.
Additionally, there is the mystery surrounding the Sorcerer's Stone, which leads Harry, Ron, and Hermione to begin an investigation. The trio later faces the notorious mountain troll in the Hogwarts bathroom, participates in a tense game of chess, tries out the Invisibility Cloak, and discovers the Mirror of Erised.
The new series is a large-scale project for HBO, as the studio plans to adapt all seven books by author J.K. Rowling into seven television seasons. The first season consists of eight episodes, based on Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, and is scheduled for release during the Christmas season. HBO also renewed the show for a second season in May, which will adapt Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

The series' cast includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, the Headmaster of Hogwarts; Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall; Paapa Essiedu as Professor Snape; Nick Frost as Hagrid; Luke Thallon as Professor Quirrell; Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch; Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge; Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, among many others.
The series also marks a major screen debut for many young actors. Lox Pratt plays Draco Malfoy; Leo Earley plays Seamus Finnegan; Rory Wilmot plays Neville Longbottom; Gracie Cochrane plays Ginny Weasley, and Elijah Oshin takes on the role of Dean Thomas.
Previously, on March 24, HBO released the first images of the series, in which Dominic McLaughlin appeared as Harry in his Gryffindor robes. He is seen heading toward the Quidditch pitch on the Hogwarts grounds, surrounded by other students in school uniforms.
Following that, HBO released the full trailer, revealing the new looks of Ron, Hermione, Dumbledore, Snape, and many other fan-favorite characters.

Notably, the visuals and special effects of the new series are highly regarded, possessing a cinematic quality comparable to the Warner Bros. Harry Potter film franchise.
HBO also released a new synopsis for the first season: "Harry Potter is nothing special - at least that's what Aunt Petunia tells him. But when a mysterious letter arrives informing Harry that he has been accepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the door to a hidden world of magic, friendship, and adventure opens.
However, behind the enchanting walls of Hogwarts lie dark secrets. Harry must find the courage to prove himself against the most dangerous dark wizard of all time."

Of note is the scene where Harry Potter is "confronted" by Snape; one has to look closely to see the Potions Master, as actor Paapa Essiedu is almost entirely shrouded in shadow. This continues to spark much debate. Part of the reason stems from the fact that Snape is a character Harry has always been suspicious of, even though this suspicion largely originates from his own assumptions. The casting of Paapa Essiedu also triggered a wave of racist backlash against the actor, as in the original source material, Snape is described as white.
