Professor Hoang Xuan Sinh" documentary to be screened at the European-Vietnamese Documentary Film Festival

The film "Professor Hoang Xuan Sinh," directed by Do Thi Huyen Trang, was selected for the festival's opening night. The work portrays a female intellectual who has made significant contributions to the nation's science and education. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. James Shipton, Vice President of EUNIC in Vietnam and Country Director of the British Council in Vietnam, noted that the special appeal of the documentary film festival lies in the opportunity for audiences to sit together in a theater and "see the world through the lens of others."
According to him, documentaries require a different approach than fictional films because the starting point of the genre is reality: lives, lands, and moments that have been witnessed and then brought before the audience by filmmakers.

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong stated that after 16 editions, the European-Vietnamese Documentary Film Festival has gradually affirmed its position in Vietnam's cinematic landscape, contributing to bringing Vietnamese and European documentary works closer to the public. At the same time, the festival creates further opportunities for exchange and cooperation between domestic and international filmmakers.
He believes that each work in the festival brings a unique story and perspective; together, these works create a space for the audience to explore, reflect, and engage in dialogue about the issues of contemporary life.
Meritorious Artist Trinh Quang Tung, Deputy General Director in charge of the Central Documentary and Scientific Film Studio, stated that European countries have selected and submitted many high-quality cinematic works to the festival, including films that have been honored and won awards at international film festivals.
On the Vietnamese side, the selected works are all of high quality, possess outstanding artistic value, and have won numerous awards at domestic film events. He shared that through this event, the audience has the opportunity to learn, explore, and gain a deeper mutual understanding of culture, people, and life, as well as issues related to the environment and sustainable development in each country.
