On the afternoon of October 2, the showcase for the feature film Flying Dairy Cows took place in Ho Chi Minh City. The film features a Gen Z cast including Nguyen Hung, Ngoc Xuan, Vo Dien Gia Huy, and Tieu Vy. Flying Dairy Cows is the debut feature film by director Nguyen Pham Thanh Dat, following the success of his short film projects Tan Sua and Dan Ca Go. Set on a dairy farm in Moc Chau in the 1990s, the film tells the story of a group of workers who attempt to steal a secret milk formula, leading to choices that change the course of their lives.

Flying Dairy Cows is set in Moc Chau during the 1990s, a time before director Nguyen Pham Thanh Dat was even born. Therefore, during the script development process, he met with people who had lived and worked on the farm to learn about the lifestyle, work, costumes, and stories from that era. The director explained that his choice of this period stemmed from a desire to tell a story connected to his homeland. According to him, the 1990s was a period filled with interesting events at the Moc Chau Dairy Farm, providing suitable material for the film.

"Flying Dairy Cows is inspired by events from the 1990s, from the setting to the art direction of that time. I then had to find a way to tell a story with a historical undertone while incorporating science fiction and slightly fantastical elements," he said.

Regarding why the characters speak with various regional accents despite the story taking place in Moc Chau, Nguyen Pham Thanh Dat explained that many people from different provinces were transferred to work at the farm, creating regional diversity in the area. Flying Dairy Cows marks the reunion of Nguyen Hung and director Nguyen Pham Thanh Dat following the short films Dan Ca Go and Tan Sua. This is also the first time the actor has taken on a lead role in a feature film.

Nguyen Hung admits to feeling the pressure of his first feature film lead role. The actor shared that he initially thought he couldn't perform action scenes or emotional dialogue well, especially the requirement to portray the character using a different accent.

"I once suggested this role to Huy Tit because he has a similar look to me and very impressive acting ability. I also 'pushed' the role to Vo Dien Gia Huy, but then I received news that he was cast in a supporting role, and I felt like 'collapsing'," Nguyen Hung humorously shared.

Before Flying Dairy Cows, Lanh Thanh and Vo Dien Gia Huy worked together on Goodbye Mother. Later, in May 2026, social media was "stirred up" by a livestream from Lanh Thanh, in which the actor made comments regarding the private life and career of his co-star.

Responding to questions about the controversy surrounding him, Vo Dien Gia Huy admitted he was saddened that the film was affected by side stories. The actor wanted to share his perspective once so that the audience could understand better, then focus on supporting Flying Dairy Cows.

"We are not just simple colleagues. We both entered the film industry and started together on a project. Our relationship is more than just brotherhood," he said. Besides the story with Lanh Thanh, Vo Dien Gia Huy also addressed the issue of "shipping" or creating "couples" between actors during the filming and promotional process.

In Flying Dairy Cows, his character and Ngoc Xuan's are a couple. Therefore, the two actors creating chemistry is part of the job to serve the story.

"An actor's job is to create chemistry with female co-stars to serve the film and the character. It is a necessary part of the work. I hope the audience will look more at the film itself, rather than focusing too much on private lives and inadvertently affecting my professional relationships with my co-stars," he added.
