TPO - The horror film “The Red Thread” by director Ham Tran has been officially retitled “The Third Eye.” The filmmaker has unveiled the first images of a world where the living can see and communicate with the dead.
Following "The Housemaid," Ham Tran continues to explore the spiritual realm but with a significantly heightened level of horror.

After being known as "The Red Thread," director Ham Tran’s horror project is now titled "The Third Eye." The film has been selected for screening at the 2026 Busan International Film Festival in the Midnight Passion category. The title change was decided during post-production, as the story and the film’s cinematic language became more clearly defined.

“Since the beginning of the project, 'The Red Thread' represented the idea of destiny connecting our lives. But as the film took shape, I realized 'The Third Eye' was the name that truly belonged to this story,” the director shared.

For Ham Tran, the “third eye” is not just the ability to see spirits. It opens up realities beyond ordinary perception, which may be a gift for some but a curse for others.

This imagery was actually hinted at by the director earlier. In the first-look poster, a character appears with a third eye on their forehead. In the final seconds of the first-look trailer, the character played by Ba Tay also unexpectedly reveals anomalous eyes after a severe headache.

According to the newly released teaser trailer, the film revolves around Lac, the central character. Since childhood, Lac has had the ability to see and talk to the dead. But instead of trying to run away, she chooses to listen to them. “They are trapped in the past, Dad; they are regretful, angry, and still suffering,” Lac tells her father. The spirits in "The Third Eye" carry unresolved stories, traumas, and unfinished emotions.

Director Ham Tran says he calls them “friends” because he does not view these spirits as entities that only exist to frighten the living. To him, they are still "people trapped by something unresolved." “I have to do it because my 'friends' asked me to,” Ham Tran explains as his motivation for making the film.

This approach ensures that the spiritual world in "The Third Eye" is not built solely on ghostly imagery, but is also tied to stories of fate, karma, and what humans leave behind after death.

"The Third Eye" features a cast including Ba Tay, Kieu Trinh, Quang Tuan, Ngoc Phuoc, Tran Nghia, Doan Minh Anh, Loube Nguyen, Cao Thuy Linh, Truong Minh Thao, Gia Tue, and others.

The teaser trailer also shows Lac’s coming-of-age journey across three stages. Gia Tue plays Lac at age 6, Ca Rot (Cao Thuy Linh) takes on the role of Lac in high school, and Loube Nguyen plays the character as an adult.

Accompanying Lac is her father, played by Quang Tuan. Beyond listening to and guiding his daughter, he stands by her side when those around them doubt Lac’s special ability.

Director Ham Tran consistently places his characters in spaces that intersect between two worlds. Consequently, "The Third Eye" is presented as a story about urban legends, spirits, and the invisible connections between people. The film is scheduled for release on December 4th.
