About this location
Ba Lat Estuary – Where the Red River meets the sea Ba Lat Estuary is located at the mouth of the Red River, where the river completes its journey and merges into the Gulf of Tonkin. According to the Ninh Binh Department of Tourism, this is a transitional zone between silt-rich river water and seawater, creating a unique coastal estuarine ecosystem characterized by mudflats, mangrove forests, and wetlands. In terms of filming potential, Ba Lat Estuary offers an expansive natural space with a distinct intersection of river, sea, mudflats, and mangroves. The topography is constantly evolving due to sedimentation, erosion, and tidal patterns, creating diverse layers of scenery. This provides an excellent base for capturing panoramic shots of the river-sea interface, wetland landscapes, the lives of coastal residents, and sequences centered on nature. This area is also associated with Xuan Thuy National Park – a wetland of international ecological significance, serving as a habitat and stopover for numerous species of waterbirds. Based on these characteristics, Ba Lat Estuary is well-suited for documentaries, nature and environmental films, cultural films, and works exploring the lives of coastal estuarine communities. The river-sea environment and the unique mangrove ecosystem can also provide a visual backdrop for stories concerning the relationship between humans, nature, and the formation of coastal lands.
