Xich Dang Temple of Literature – A Cultural Landmark of Pho Hien Located in Xich Dang Village, Son Nam Ward, Hung Yen Province, the Xich Dang Temple of Literature is one of the iconic monuments within the Pho Hien Special National Relic Site. The temple was established around 1701 during the Later Le Dynasty and underwent major restoration in 1839 under the Nguyen Dynasty. As a provincial-level Temple of Literature, it once served as a venue for regional examinations and a site to honor the scholars of the former Son Nam region. It was recognized as a National Historical Relic by the Ministry of Culture and Information in 1992. The architectural complex bears the distinct marks of the Nguyen Dynasty, featuring a two-story, eight-roof Tam Quan Gate, a Bell Tower, a Gong Tower, two rows of Ta Vu and Huu Vu (East and West corridors), and a majestic main ceremonial hall. The most valuable historical highlight is the collection of nine ancient stone steles inscribed with the names of scholars from the former Son Nam region. The temple faces south, capturing abundant natural light, which, combined with moss-covered wooden corridors and a spacious brick courtyard, provides an ideal setting for camera setups to recreate scenes of traditional examinations, old-school classrooms, folk cultural activities, or historical dramas.
