Phuoc Thanh Pagoda – A Buddhist Sanctuary on Cu Lao Gieng Phuoc Thanh Pagoda, colloquially known by locals as 'Chim Pagoda' (Bird Pagoda), is located in Binh Phuoc Xuan Commune, An Giang Province. It is situated on one of the three fertile islets of the famous Cu Lao Gieng, an area renowned for its long history of land reclamation and unique religious architecture in the Southwestern region of Vietnam. Founded by Most Venerable Thich Buu Duc in 1872, the pagoda has weathered many historical upheavals and the ravages of war. It once served as a sanctuary for revolutionary soldiers operating in secrecy before undergoing comprehensive renovations in 1973 and 2005. Following 15 years of dedicated construction led by Most Venerable Thich Hue Tai, Phuoc Thanh Pagoda now offers a truly cinematic landscape. The most striking visual highlight is the majestic 39-meter-tall statue of Amitabha Buddha standing amidst lush greenery, surrounded by 48 exquisitely crafted white stone Bodhisattva statues—a record recognized by Guinness Vietnam as the largest of its kind in the country. The evening sunlight casting the shadow of the colossal Buddha statue across the serene grounds, combined with the occasional tolling of temple bells, creates cinematic frames that are deeply surreal, tranquil, and sacred. This location is particularly suitable as a primary setting for historical dramas, period pieces, spiritual or religious art films, social dramas set during the era of Southern land reclamation, or cultural and historical documentaries.
