Ong Pagoda Can Tho - Chinese architecture in the heart of the city Ong Pagoda Can Tho, originally known as Quang Trieu Assembly Hall, is located at 32 Hai Ba Trung Street, Ninh Kieu Ward, Can Tho City. Built between 1894 and 1896, it served as an assembly hall for the Chinese community originating from Guangzhou and Zhaoqing, Guangdong. In 1993, Ong Pagoda was recognized as a National Architectural and Artistic Monument. The structure features distinct Chinese architecture with a 'Guo' (nation) character layout, enclosed buildings surrounding a central courtyard (Thien Tinh), yin-yang roof tiles, green glazed roof ridges, and colorful ceramic decorations. The interior houses altars dedicated to Guan Yu (Quan Thanh De Quan), Mazu (Thien Hau Thanh Mau), the God of Wealth (Tai Bach Tinh Quan), and Guanyin (Phat Ba Quan Am). The reliefs, carvings, and decorative motifs reflect various themes from Chinese culture. The sequential spaces—from the gate and front hall to the central courtyard and main sanctuary—offer excellent opportunities for various shot sizes and camera angles. With its unique architectural and spiritual value, this location is suitable for historical films, cultural films, documentaries, and works exploring the life of the Chinese community in Southern Vietnam, particularly for scenes requiring the recreation of late 19th-century Chinese spiritual and architectural spaces.
