Ba Chua Xu Temple at Sam Mountain

About this location

Ba Chua Xu Temple at Sam Mountain – A spiritual sanctuary of the Southwestern region. Located majestically at the foot of Sam Mountain in Vinh Te Ward, An Giang Province, the Ba Chua Xu Temple in Chau Doc is the largest and most renowned spiritual and pilgrimage center in the Southwestern region of Vietnam. The temple is home to an ancient sandstone statue of the Lady of the Realm (Ba Chua Xu), dating back to the Champa era, which was brought down from the peak of Sam Mountain by a ritual performed by virgins in the 19th century. The Ba Chua Xu Temple Festival, held annually from the 23rd to the 27th of the fourth lunar month, has been inscribed by UNESCO on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. From a cinematic perspective, the temple features a grand architectural style that harmoniously blends traditional Vietnamese and Khmer elements. Its standout features include the intricate, curved three-tiered blue-tiled roof adorned with dragon and phoenix motifs, and the main hall filled with incense smoke, creating a magnificent and mystical filming backdrop. This location is ideal for historical films, cultural features, spiritual dramas, artistic documentaries, and works exploring life in the Southern region. Information compiled by: PTIT.
