Phu Gia Horse-Hat Craft Village - Cultural Heritage Located in Phu Gia Village, Xuan An Commune, Binh Dinh Province (formerly Cat Tuong Commune, Phu Cat District), the Phu Gia Horse-Hat craft village boasts a history of nearly 300 years, deeply intertwined with the Tay Son era and the swift-moving army of King Quang Trung - Nguyen Hue. The 'horse hat' (nón ngựa) was named for its durability and resilience, designed for riders on horseback. Historically, these hats were reserved for mandarins and village officials; adorned with silver and intricate dragon and phoenix carvings, they served as symbols of authority across the feudal countryside of Binh Dinh. On April 9, 2024, the craft of making Phu Gia horse hats was officially recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage. Currently, about 300 households in the village practice the craft, primarily concentrated in Phu Gia Village. The village offers an authentic traditional production environment: artisans stitching hats on their porches, bamboo hat frames, and a periodic hat market held every five days where nearly 1,000 hats are traded. The landscape captures the essence of the Central Vietnamese countryside, making it ideal for recreating traditional village life. With its rich historical foundation and well-preserved craft environment, this location is suitable for cultural and heritage documentaries, historical dramas set in the Tay Son period, and television series exploring the life of Vietnamese craft villages.
