Hoang De Citadel

Hoang De Citadel, Vietnam - Champa & Tay Son Historical Site Hoang De Citadel, also known as Do Ban Citadel, is located in Nhon Hau Commune and Dap Da Ward, An Nhon Town. It preserves the remnants of three overlapping historical periods. Originally the capital of the Champa Kingdom (Vijaya, 11th–15th centuries), the citadel was rebuilt in 1776 by the Tay Son Dynasty to serve as the capital for Emperor Thai Duc (Nguyen Nhac). Most of the structure was dismantled by the Nguyen Dynasty between 1815 and 1816, with only the Octagonal Pavilion remaining, which was later converted into a tomb area. Recognized as a National Historical Site in 1982, it is one of the largest ancient citadels in Vietnam. The site retains earthen ramparts 3–6 meters high, traces of the Imperial City and the Forbidden Purple City, stone elephant and 'nghe' (mythical creature) statues in Champa style, and two semi-circular lakes uncovered through archaeological excavations. The open landscape and moss-covered walls create a solemn atmosphere, ideal for wide-angle shots and large-scale battle reenactments. With its verified multi-dynastic fortifications, this location is highly valuable for historical epics, battle scenes, and documentaries regarding Champa civilization or the Tay Son movement.
