About this location

Co Le Pagoda - An Intersection of East-West Buddhist Architecture Co Le Pagoda, formally known as Than Quang Tu, is located in Co Le Commune, Ninh Binh Province (formerly Nam Dinh Province). The pagoda dates back to the Ly Dynasty, associated with Zen Master Nguyen Minh Khong. It is a Special National Monument, holding typical historical, cultural, and architectural value in Vietnamese Buddhism. Co Le Pagoda's highlight is the fusion of traditional Eastern architecture with Western Gothic influences, evident in its vaulted roofing system, structural framework, and spatial organization. The relic complex comprises notable features such as the main sanctuary, the 26.3-meter-high Cuu Pham Lien Hoa (Nine-tier Lotus) Tower, a triple-arched stone bridge spanning the lake, and the Kim Chung Bao Cac bell tower. The interplay of architectural structures, water surfaces, and the courtyard creates multi-layered spaces, offering great potential for wide panoramic shots, symmetrical framing, and camera movements aligned with architectural axes. With its distinctive historical, cultural, and architectural value, Co Le Pagoda is well-suited as a setting for historical films, period dramas, cultural-architectural documentaries, and works exploring themes of Buddhism and traditional beliefs. Areas such as the Cuu Pham Lien Hoa Tower, the arched bridge, the lake, and the main sanctuary can be selected based on artistic requirements, script content, and the approval of the site management unit.
