Tam Bac Lake and River
Tam Bac Lake, Le Chan Ward, Hai Phong City
About this location
Tam Bac Lake, Hai Phong – An urban icon of the Port City Located within the central strip of Hai Phong city, Tam Bac Lake bears the distinct marks of the port city's formation and urban evolution. This area was originally the Liem Khe creek, part of the old An Bien village. In 1885, the French straightened and expanded the creek into the Bonnal Canal, connecting the Tam Bac River to the Cam River. By 1925, a section of the canal was filled in, and the remaining part became known to locals as the 'Filled River' (Song Lap). In 1985, the city constructed the Tam Ky dam, transforming the river section into a lake and naming it Tam Bac Lake. Today, the lake is a prominent feature of the central urban landscape, connecting with landmarks such as the Municipal Theatre, the Flower Stall (Quan Hoa), the Bandstand (Nha Ken), and the central flower garden. The lake covers a water surface area of approximately 4.82 hectares, while the entire central strip spans nearly 21 hectares and stretches about 2.7 km. The system of greenery, walkways, and waterfront landscapes creates a multi-layered urban space, suitable for filming documentaries, urban dramas, cultural-historical projects, and city life scenes.
