Thuong Temple

Thuong Temple, Lao Cai – A Historical Border Monument Thuong Temple is situated on Hoa Hieu Hill in Lao Cai Ward, located at the confluence of the Red River and the Nam Thi River. Dedicated to the National Commander-in-Chief Hung Dao Dai Vuong Tran Quoc Tuan, the temple was built during the Le Dynasty, under the Chinh Hoa era (1680–1705). In 1996, the site was recognized as a National Historical and Cultural Monument. Regarding its value as a filming location, Thuong Temple offers a space that blends traditional religious architecture with a border landscape. The temple complex features tiled roofs, curved gables, and intricate dragon and tiger motifs; adjacent to it is the square-shaped Phuong Dinh (communal house) with four entrances and a stone turtle carrying a stele. From its hilltop position, the space opens up to views of the Nam Thi River and the border area, providing excellent opportunities for capturing architectural shots, landscapes, and sequences emphasizing the cultural and historical atmosphere of the border region. Given these recognized values, Thuong Temple is well-suited for historical films, cultural-artistic films, and documentaries, particularly those exploring historical figures, folk beliefs, and the cultural space of the borderlands. The festival atmosphere can also provide visual material on community cultural practices at the site.
