Thai Nguyen Province

Thai Nguyen Province – Land of Tea, Mountain Lakes, and Historic Revolutionary Bases On June 12, 2025, pursuant to Resolution No. 202/2025/QH15 of the National Assembly, the new Thai Nguyen Province was established through the merger of the former Thai Nguyen and Bac Kan provinces, effective July 1, 2025. The province covers a natural area of 8,375.21 km² with a population of approximately 1.8 million, comprising 99 commune-level administrative units (86 communes and 13 wards), with the administrative center located in Thai Nguyen City. The province borders Bac Ninh, Cao Bang, Lang Son, Phu Tho, Tuyen Quang, and the capital, Hanoi. The merger creates a geographically diverse landscape: the southern region features midland areas with lush green Tan Cuong tea hills, the poetic Nui Coc Lake, and the Dinh Hoa Safe Zone (ATK) — a revolutionary base associated with President Ho Chi Minh during the resistance against the French, known as the "Capital of the Thousand Winds." The northern region consists of the karst limestone mountains of the former Bac Kan province, home to Ba Be Lake — one of the largest natural freshwater lakes in Vietnam located within Ba Be National Park — alongside the rich cultural identities of the Tay, Nung, and Dao ethnic groups. The combination of midland tea hills, pristine mountain lakes, and multi-layered historical revolutionary sites makes Thai Nguyen a location with immense potential for historical-revolutionary films, nature documentaries, and films focusing on ethnic minority cultures.
