While the film is noted for its filming locations, production design, and martial arts choreography, the 20-minute cut has yet to resolve certain inherent limitations.

On August 31, a shortened version of "Guardians of the King: The Mystery of Dinh King's Tomb" was released across various cinema chains. During this transition period, the 135-minute version is being screened alongside the original 155-minute full cut. According to the producers, the new version was edited by director Nguyen Phan Quang Binh and director/editor Ham Tran. The goal of the edit was to increase the pacing, condense scenes, and heighten the dramatic tension.
The decision to re-edit the film during its theatrical run has significantly boosted discussions surrounding "Guardians of the King". Google Trends data shows that the search term "Guardians of the King review" increased by 250%, while "Guardians of the King box office" rose by 400%. Among the top trending search queries, "Guardians of the King revenue" saw a 500% increase, and "Guardians of the King box office" grew by 350%.
After a few days of ticket sales, including early screenings, the film has grossed approximately 15 billion VND. This performance has not yet met the scale of investment or the expectations for a historical fantasy project released during the National Day holiday.
On Threads, the topic of the shortened version of "Guardians of the King" ranked third in trending discussions, with over 1,000 posts. Conversations have focused on the differences between the two versions, the potential for a box office recovery, and whether cutting 20 minutes is enough to improve the film.
Johnny Tri Nguyen also became a highly searched subject following a post that began with a "confession." Within 24 hours, interest in the actor increased by 130% compared to the previous day and over 5,000% compared to the same time last week.
