Victor Vu joins the 2027 Tet film race

Director Victor Vu is releasing the second installment of Detective Kien, joining Tran Thanh's Em in the 2027 Tet holiday box office race.

Detective Kien is a period film series centered on the titular character (played by actor Quoc Huy) and his journey to unravel mysterious cases. This character first appeared in a supporting role in Victor Vu's The Last Wife (2023) before becoming the protagonist in his own spin-off, Detective Kien: The Headless Mystery (2025). The work impressed audiences by blending elements of detective fiction, history, and Vietnamese culture.
Sharing his thoughts on the new installment, director Victor Vu stated, "This time, we really want to take the audience on a completely new journey. And those who haven't seen the first part will still be able to enjoy it fully," the director said.
With its theatrical release scheduled for the 2027 Tet holiday, Detective Kien: The Golden Curse will compete with two other previously announced projects: Close to Death (directed by Bui Thac Chuyen) and Em (directed by Tran Thanh).
