Considered one of the most anticipated Vietnamese film projects this summer, “Mesdames Thanh Sac” marks a collaboration between producer Thanh Hang, director Thang Vu, and a renowned cast. Beyond a story of love, jealousy, and the desire for a better life, the film offers perspectives on the human condition behind the glamour of a turbulent era.
At the premiere, the film received positive feedback from guests regarding its visuals, costumes, and the meticulously recreated atmosphere of 1960s Saigon. Creative Director Tung Leo stated that the crew placed special emphasis on the cultural life, architecture, and fashion of the period to provide the most authentic experience for the audience.
Notably, the production team utilized CGI combined with AI to recreate a series of familiar landmarks of old Saigon, such as Ben Thanh Market, the Majestic Hotel, and iconic streets from the 1960s. According to the producer, CGI and art design were the most expensive categories of the project, with visual effects alone accounting for approximately 20% of the total production budget.

Director Thang Vu stated that the production team's ambition was to reconstruct an authentic Saigon rather than merely creating illustrative imagery. "We didn't want the audience to see just a vintage backdrop. We wanted to capture the true spirit, atmosphere, and pulse of Saigon during that period," Thang Vu emphasized.
To realize this goal, the project mobilized approximately 60-70 visual effects experts from Vietnam, Singapore, and France, divided into 6 teams working continuously for several months.
At the premiere, the cast also shared interesting insights. Taking on the lead role of Cam Thanh, Thanh Hang shared that this is one of the most psychologically complex roles she has ever portrayed. The character Cam Thanh experiences a range of emotions from love, hurt, and resistance to despair, requiring the actress to constantly adjust her performance across different stages.
During the premiere, the film's censorship process was a topic of interest for the media, as the work touches upon many hidden corners of old Saigon society. A representative for the producer stated that the team was quite surprised that the film only required one minor edit—cutting a close-up shot in an acid attack scene—while all other details remained intact.
Thanh Hang believes that despite exploring the darker sides of society, the work still conveys a humanistic message about forgiveness, letting go, and the human journey of healing after trauma.
With its significant investment in art direction and acting, the film is expected to make a mark at the box office when it officially opens to the public.
