Cinemas in China have become vibrant thanks to The Odyssey, the Greek epic blockbuster directed by Christopher Nolan. According to Sina, The Odyssey in China surpassed 300 million yuan just 5 days after its release (starting August 14), bringing its total global box office revenue to 1.4 billion USD.

Notably, during its opening weekend alone, the film's IMAX box office revenue reached 90 million yuan. Including early screenings, The Odyssey has now grossed a total of 132.3 million yuan in the Chinese IMAX market, accounting for 53% of the film's total box office revenue across China.
Most IMAX theaters across China have dedicated their screening slots to The Odyssey. Many theaters have reported audiences filling even the front and second rows.
A typical example is that many IMAX screenings at theaters in Hangzhou (China) are currently "sold out." Even for screenings after 10 PM, the occupancy rate exceeds 80%. In these theaters, standard seat tickets are priced at 119 yuan, while premium seating areas reach up to 139 yuan.

Thanks to its strong debut in the Chinese market, The Odyssey's global IMAX revenue has risen to 345 million USD, continuing to widen the gap with other productions and solidifying its position as the highest-grossing IMAX film in history.
The CEO of IMAX China stated: "The Odyssey is creating a major cultural event in China and is likely to maintain strong growth momentum, achieving impressive results for a long time to come."
With August only halfway through, IMAX China is already certain to break the record for the highest August box office revenue in history.
In fact, the IMAX fever stems from the unprecedented production scale of The Odyssey. This is the first film in the world to be shot entirely with 70mm IMAX film cameras. The IMAX version is the original version from the production process, while other formats were adapted from this version.
To overcome the limitations of IMAX film cameras, which are large in size and generate high mechanical noise, Christopher Nolan's crew collaborated with IMAX to develop a new camera model called "Kelley," along with a specialized sound-dampening housing system.
