Spider-Man holds firm at North American box office, crosses $2 billion globally

The appeal of Spider-Man continues to stir the box office as the blockbuster “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” remains at the top of the North American charts for the third consecutive week and has hit the $2 billion mark globally just 18 days after its release.

The film “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” continues to create a frenzy at the box office, leading the North American rankings for the third consecutive week, grossing an additional $70 million over the past weekend, thereby pushing its total global revenue past the $2 billion mark.
According to estimates released by tracking firms on the evening of August 16, the new collaboration between Sony and Marvel earned $70 million in the U.S. and Canada during its third week of release, bringing its total domestic revenue to approximately $785.8 million. With an additional $118.7 million from international markets, the film has reached $2.022 billion globally.
This achievement makes “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” the highest-grossing film in Sony's history, surpassing the record set by “Spider-Man: No Way Home” in 2021. The film also joins the exclusive group of cinematic works to have crossed the $2 billion global revenue mark, while becoming one of the fastest films in history to reach this milestone.
Notably, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” crossed the $2 billion mark just 18 days after its release, trailing only “Avengers: Endgame” in the speed of reaching this milestone.
The achievement continues to demonstrate the special appeal of the Spider-Man brand and the Marvel superhero film genre in major markets. In the film, Tom Holland continues to play Peter Parker, alongside Zendaya (as MJ) and Jacob Batalon (as Ned Leeds).
The story revolves around Peter Parker after he erases his identity, living in isolation and seeking to reconnect with MJ and his best friend Ned, while facing a new threat in New York.
In second place at the North American box office, “The Odyssey” by director Christopher Nolan earned $23.2 million in its 5th week of release. The film's total domestic revenue has reached approximately $504.7 million, while its global revenue has climbed to about $1.29 billion.
The most notable race took place at the 3rd spot, where two new films exploring the dinosaur theme but targeting different audience segments competed fiercely. Written and directed by David Robert Mitchell and starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, the film tells the story of a 1982 suburban neighborhood that is suddenly transported back to the prehistoric world. The film grossed an additional $26 million from international markets, bringing its global opening revenue to approximately $47 million.
Meanwhile, “Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie” took fourth place with $20.5 million. The animated film from Paramount Pictures was released in 3,545 theaters in the U.S. and Canada, targeting family audiences and receiving an A grade from CinemaScore. Its global revenue currently stands at approximately $69 million.
The North American film market also closed the 2026 summer season with positive results. Total summer box office revenue exceeded $4.2 billion, approximately 5.7% higher than the summer of 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic broke out. Year-to-date, North American box office revenue has neared $6.9 billion.
