Johnny Depp in talks to return for Pirates of the Caribbean 6

Johnny Depp may return to the role of Captain Jack Sparrow in the upcoming “Pirates of the Caribbean” film.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer told US media: “We are talking to Johnny Depp, working on a script, and hoping to complete this project.”
Several industry sources have also revealed that the sixth installment of the blockbuster “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise will focus on a lead character played by actress Margot Robbie, while Depp will return in a supporting role. Essentially, this will be a new direction for the brand.
Johnny Depp first played Captain Jack Sparrow in the 2003 film “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl,” directed by Gore Verbinski, with Orlando Bloom as Will Turner and Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Swann.
He continued to reprise the role in the second installment, “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest” (2006), and the third, “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End” (2007).
Depp also appeared in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” (2011) and concluded his journey as Jack Sparrow in “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” (2017).
Although the most recent film saw a significant decline in revenue compared to its predecessors, the entire franchise has grossed over $4.5 billion at the global box office across five films.

Although the sixth installment has been discussed for years, screenwriter Stuart Beattie hinted in 2018 that Depp would be leaving this iconic role.
“I think he’s had a great run. Obviously, he’s made that character his own and it’s become the character he’s most famous for now.
Kids all over the world love him as that character. So, I think it’s been great for him, it’s been great for us, and I’m just very, very happy about it. I think Jack Sparrow will be his legacy. It’s the only character he’s played five times,” Beattie shared.
Meanwhile, Johnny Depp will play Ebenezer Scrooge in the upcoming film “Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol,” scheduled for release on November 13.
In July, he appeared with an almost unrecognizable look while embodying the character at San Diego Comic-Con to promote the film.
This upcoming role will mark Depp’s first major film since winning his 2022 defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife Amber Heard, to whom he was married from 2015 to 2017.
Johnny Depp sued the “Aquaman” actress for implying he had abused her in a 2018 op-ed. Ultimately, Depp was awarded $1 million as part of a settlement agreement.
