Despite high expectations for a box office breakthrough, Hộ linh tráng sĩ: Bí ẩn mộ vua Đinh and Quý tử vượt giàu have had underwhelming openings.

The September 2nd holiday season was predicted to be a fierce period for the box office with three Vietnamese films hitting theaters simultaneously: Nghỉ hè sợ nghỉ hưu, Hộ linh tráng sĩ: Bí ẩn mộ vua Đinh, and Quý tử vượt giàu. However, contrary to expectations, Hộ linh tráng sĩ and Quý tử vượt giàu had quite lackluster starts, failing to demonstrate significant appeal during their first days in theaters.
For Hộ linh tráng sĩ, although its start was more positive than Quý tử vượt giàu, a revenue of nearly 5.5 billion VND remains a modest figure when compared to its reported production budget of 100 billion VND.
The large gap between current revenue and the break-even point is placing significant pressure on the film. If it cannot accelerate during the peak days of the holiday, the challenge of recouping the investment will become increasingly difficult for the producers.

Quý tử vượt giàu marks the return of director Nguyen Quang Dung following the less-than-successful Yêu nhầm bạn thân. The film stars the duo Thu Trang and Tien Luat and is an adaptation of the Chinese box office phenomenon Successor.
Despite possessing elements typically considered box office advantages—a well-known director, a lead couple familiar to audiences, and a story with proven commercial appeal—Quý tử vượt giàu has yet to generate a corresponding impact.
Revenue of over 2.1 billion VND after early screenings and the opening day indicates that the film is struggling to draw audiences to theaters. Notably, the current box office leader is a film that was released many years ago.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, in its theatrical re-release, is attracting significant attention from audiences, even surpassing the new films released during the first days of the holiday season. As of the morning of August 29, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone continued to lead daily box office revenue with over 1 billion VND, bringing its total revenue to over 12 billion VND.
The appeal of the Harry Potter brand partly demonstrates the advantage of films with an established fan base. Meanwhile, new Vietnamese films must convince audiences through their storytelling, genre, and word-of-mouth effects from the very first days.

After half a month of "dominating" the Vietnamese box office, Huynh Lap's Nghỉ hè sợ nghỉ hưu is gradually cooling down, slipping to second place behind Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Nevertheless, the film has received "good news" as it reached over 118 billion VND, becoming the first Vietnamese film of the September 2nd holiday season to surpass the 100-billion-mark. During the film's press conference, Huynh Lap expressed his ambition for Nghỉ hè sợ nghỉ hưu to match the revenue of Nhà gia tiên (242 billion VND).
Given the current situation, reaching this milestone is not impossible, but it will be a significant challenge as the appeal of Nghỉ hè sợ nghỉ hưu shows signs of waning while it must share market share with the series of new films hitting theaters.
