On the evening of August 15, the official fanpage of the film Quán Kỳ Nam (The Nam's Inn) updated with new information: Actress Do Thi Hai Yen has just won the Second Best Actress award for her role in Quán Kỳ Nam at the 25th Imagine India International Film Festival, held in Madrid, Spain.

This is a long-standing independent film festival focused on regional cultural exchange and independent promotion. While not part of the world's top-tier A-list film festivals, it is considered a familiar destination for many Asian independent filmmakers seeking a presence in the European market.

"A beautiful recognition for Hai Yen and for the journey of Quán Kỳ Nam to international audiences," the fanpage wrote.

Quán Kỳ Nam by Leon Le previously held its world premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival in the Special Presentations category, before continuing its journey at various other international film festivals. The role of Ky Nam in this film marks the return of Do Thi Hai Yen after a long hiatus. Notably, this good news comes just before the release of the film Hộ linh tráng sĩ (directed by Nguyen Phan Quang Binh), scheduled for August 22 in Ninh Binh.

Previously, the film officially participated in the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in the Gala Presentations category, one of the most prestigious categories, gathering large-scale works with outstanding artistic value and international reach. This also marks the second consecutive time Do Thi Hai Yen has had a work selected at TIFF, following Quán Kỳ Nam in the Special Presentations category in 2025. It also marks the ninth film featuring her at major film festivals.

In Hộ linh tráng sĩ, Hai Yen takes on the role of Queen Duong, a historical figure carrying many layers of meaning regarding courage and responsibility. The actress stated that she did not approach the character as a historical icon, but as a woman standing amidst the upheavals of the era, where every decision comes at the cost of very human losses. This new role thus continues to show the shift in her acting journey, from the everyday characters, full of vulnerability and desire in Quán Kỳ Nam, to an image tied to history and the great fluctuations of the times.
