Tran Ba The Ancient House – A Landmark of Southern Vietnamese Architecture Located in the Tan An area, Tan Loc Ward, Can Tho City, the Tran Ba The Ancient House sits on Tan Loc Islet, surrounded by the characteristic riverine landscape and orchards of the Mekong Delta. This ancient house holds significant architectural and cultural value, built around 1935 by Mr. Tran Thien Thoai, the father of Mr. Tran Ba The, and subsequently inherited and preserved by the family through generations. The property spans approximately 10,000 m², surrounded by lush greenery and mature ornamental trees. The structure consists of a front house, a back house, and a kitchen, blending Western architectural influences with traditional Southern Vietnamese residential features. The interior retains many original wooden details, high ceilings, high doorways, intricate decorative patterns, and antique furniture. The front house is primarily used for ancestral worship and receiving guests, while the back house serves as the family's living quarters. With its antique atmosphere, spacious garden, and well-preserved architectural details, the Tran Ba The Ancient House was selected as a primary filming location for the movie 'Nha Gia Tien' (Ancestral Home), demonstrating its suitability for scenes requiring a family-oriented, nostalgic, and Southern cultural aesthetic.
